VPRS 897 Register of Applications for Aid to New Schools and Applications for New Schools

This series contains applications for aid for the establishment of new schools from local communities and after the establishment of the Education Department, applications for the establishment of new schools. Until 1872, details given were the name of the school or locality, the date and subject of the letter, the number of any reference or report (given as the registered number of the piece of correspondence or report) the Boards Order or Special memo (see VPRS 894 Minute Books)., the date and number of the reply and when the letter was put away. From Unit 4 no details regarding the Board are given and there is the addition of the application number in Units 6, 7 and 8. If the application was granted, the number allocated the new school was given.Once the school was established further details of assistance to schools and the provision of buildings and furnishings are given in VPRS 4801 Register of Approved Applications for Aid to Schools. Correspondence was registered in VPRS 898 Registers of Inwards Correspondence: Annual Single Number System and may be found in VPRS 795 Building Files: Primary Schools or in VPRS 903 Inwards Registered Correspondence.
