Gut Microbial Composition Varies with Host Metabolic Phenotype in Juvenile Atlantic Salmon

This study explores the relationship between gut microbiota and metabolic phenotype in juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, we identified significant differences in microbial community composition between fish with high and low standard metabolic rates (SMR). Notably, fish with lower SMR exhibited greater alpha diversity and higher abundance of Rhodobacteraceae genera, suggesting a potential functional link between gut microbiota and host energy metabolism.
