The new palladium(II) bis(N-heterocyclic carbene) complexes 1a,b were prepared efficiently from bis(imidazolium)calix[4]arene salts 2a,b. The Suzuki−Miyaura reaction was used to study their activity as catalysts when prepared in situ or from a well-defined complex.
