We sampled soils at six different altitudes along an altitudinal transect at the Atacama Desert, and reconstructed 114 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs). In addition, the genomes of a collection of 112 bacteria previously isolated from the same six sites along TLT were sequenced. We examined how the metabolic potential of soil bacteria cope with the changing environmental conditions along the altitudinal transect.
