NCBI Taxonomy Browser is a species classification database maintained by the U.S. National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). It contains approximately 597,658 species records, covering taxa such as Archaea, Bacteria, Eukaryota, and viruses. This database provides taxonomic tree search functionality, supporting queries via taxonomic name, common name, and taxonomic ID, and links to other relevant NCBI data resources. This browser will be superseded by the new NCBI Datasets Taxonomy Browser in fall 2026.
