Microalgae monocultures in liquid digestate treatment - comparative studies

This study investigated the growth of microalgae monocultures in liquid digestate with the aim of removing nutrients and organic pollutants. Environmental isolates obtained from aquatic ecosystems in Poland and Portugal were used. In the initial stage of the experiment (60 days), the capacity of selected microalgae strains (Chlorella sorokiniana, Tetradesmus obliquus, Desmodesmus subspicatus, Chloroidium saccharophilum, Desmodesmus communis) for digestate treatment was evaluated. In the subsequent stage (60 days), pH modification was implemented to assess its impact on digestate treatment efficiency, microalgal cell viability, and bacterial community composition.
