Biological Communities in Aria Oil and Methane Seeps in Pelagic of Lake Baikal. lake water metagenome

The procaryotic and eucaryotic microorganisms diversity in Lake Baikal pelagic near oil-methane and methane seeps was assessed via massive parallel sequencing of 18S rRNA, 16S rRNA, pmoA and mxaF genes fragments amplified from total DNA. Studies of water composition were carried out in early July 2013 in South and Central Baikal, near the oil seep Gorevoy Utes, area I, and near the mud volcano Bolshoy, area II. We obtained eight DNA samples from the water column of area I (0 m, 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 300 m, 500 m, 700 m, and 855 m) and five DNA samples from the water column of area II (0 m, 50 m, 100 m, 700 m, and 1370 m). This work was aimed to study the structure of eukaryotic and prokaryotic communities and marker genes for various stages of methane oxidation in different layers of Lake Baikal water columns in the areas of hydrocarbon discharge with high-performance massively parallel sequencing on Illumina MiSeq platform.
