Number of employees at full-time equivalent basis at Nordea 2014-2023

Nordea Bank's number of full-time equivalent employees peaked in 2016, when there were around 31,600 employees working for the bank. In the following years, the number of employees declined almost yearly. In 2023, the number of employees stood at 29,153. Nordea also reported high net profits in 2016, but the bank outperformed those numbers 2021 onwards. In fact, Nordea reported a record high value of net profit in 2023, with nearly five billion euros.  Nordea’s financial strength     After a period of declining numbers, the value of Nordea’s total assets increased in recent years, together with its operating income, which exceeded 11.7 billion euros in 2023. Nordea’s common equity tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio also increased in 2023. Why the change of headquarters?   In 2018, Nordea moved its headquarters from Stockholm to Helsinki. The bank's motivation to change their headquarters had its base in the Banking Union. Finland was the only country among the banks’ home markets which was already a part of the Banking Union. Nordea also had their largest corporate and institution customer market in Finland in 2019, reaching 240 thousand customers. However, their largest private customer market in 2019 was Sweden, with around 3.6 million customers.
