Carrot River Watershed Association Monitoring Program

A one-liter water sample was collected from the Carrot River at the following locations: Wakaw Lake, Gronlid, Armley, Pasquia, and Smoky Burn throughout the spring and summer. Samples were then sent to the lab for analysis. The lab testing was through Roy Romanow Provincial Lab, in Regina SK and the Ministry of Agriculture in Tisdale SK. Primary focus on the water monitoring project was to test for Phosphorus levels in the lakes and streams. The reason we are testing for phosphorus in lakes is because too much phosphorus can speed up the eutrophication process. Eutrophication is when a water body has too many nutrients in it and not enough oxygen resulting in algae blooms which will then harm the aquatic life in the body of water.
