Coastal sediment Arcachon Bay, France Raw sequence reads

This dataset contains raw metagenomic sequencing data targeting functional genes involved in methane cycling (mcrA, mmoX, pmoA) and nitrogen cycling (nifH, amoA, amoA, nxrB, hzoA, napA, narG, nrfA, nirS, nirK, norB, nosZ) from sediment samples collected in Zostera noltei seagrass meadows and adjacent bare sediments in the Arcachon Bay, France. The study aimed to investigate microbial drivers of methane fluxes in coastal ecosystems, including the abundance and diversity of methanotrophic, methanogenic, and nitrogen-cycling microbial communities. Samples were collected from 10 cm sediment cores, with the sediment mixed across the depth. Sequencing was performed using Illumina, and the raw reads are provided here for reanalysis, reproducibility, and meta-analyses of microbial communities involved in methane and nitrogen cycling. These data support research on sediment microbial ecology, greenhouse gas fluxes, and the role of seagrass meadows in coastal carbon cycling and climate regulation services.
