Habitat Classification of Bosnia and Herzegovina

This dataset contains the hierarchical classification of habitat types of Bosnia and Herzegovina, organised into six levels. The first four levels follow a natural and logical hierarchy based on ecological and physiognomic criteria. The fifth level corresponds to the vegetation alliance (where applicable), following Mucina et al. (2016) and Preislerová et al. (2022), and the sixth level to the association or sub-association, based on available literature and expert assessment. Each habitat type is linked to relevant international classifications and standards: Natura 2000 (Habitats Directive Annex I), EUNIS 2021, Bern Convention, European Red List of Habitats (IUCN), and IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology (GET). The classification was developed for the purposes of nature conservation planning in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
