Longitudinal impact of ETI in adults with Cystic Fibrosis

Highly effective CFTR modulator therapies (Elexacaftor/Tezacaftor/Ivacaftor, or ETI) are transforming patient outcomes and have provided a literal breath of fresh air to patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Despite this there is little investigation into the long term impact of these therapies on the respiratory microbiota. Here we analyse adults with CF from the UK, USA and Canada and the long term impact of ETI on the bacterial microbiota of the lung. A population analysis of 276 patients providing samples over a 3 year period of treatment and a sub-analysis of 82 patients (matched pre and on-ETI) demonstrates signficant changes to microbiota composition and diversity.
