Characterization of the gene expression profile of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in subjects with disorders of gut-brain interactions

A subclinical immune activation at the systemic level is suggested to play a role in disorders of gut-brain interactions (DGBIs), including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and its functional counterparts (functional constipation and functional diarrhea). However, there are limited data regarding peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) transcriptomes in DGBIs, and it remains unclear whether the subclinical immune activation is subtype-specific. Understanding the PBMC transcriptome in DGBIs provides insight into the systemic immunity associated with these disorders.
