This project studies the archaeal and bacterial communities in 24 selected sediment layers in a 21-m long core (GS13-CC2) retrieved from the west flank of the central Mohns Ridge. The extracted DNA were amplified using universal primers targeting the 16S rRNA genes of both archaeal and bacterial domains, and the libraries were sequenced using the IonTorrent platform.
