A Comparative Study on Depression and Burnout among Super Shop and Grocery Shop Employees of Dhaka

This study examined burnout and depression among 200 retail workers in Dhaka (100 super shop, 100 grocery shop employees). Grocery shop workers showed significantly higher burnout and depression, with large effect sizes. Burnout and depression were strongly correlated. Higher education and income reduced distress, while supervisory roles and super shop employment were protective. Working over 10 hours daily was the strongest risk factor, highlighting the mental health vulnerability of informal retail workers in Bangladesh.
