NS1 (1C) binds to MAVS

hRSV nonstructural protein 1C (NS1) associates with mitochondria and mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS, IPS-1). This disrupts the interaction between MAVS and antiviral innate immune response receptor RIG-I (also known as retinoic acid-inducible gene I protein RIG-1 or DExD/H-box helicase 58, DDX58), preventing the formation of the MAVS signalosome complex containing DDX58 or IFIH1, MAVS, TRAF3, and TBK1/IKBKE. NS1 is known to down-regulate interferon (IFN) production and to decrease activation of IFN-related signaling pathways (Boyapalle et al, 2012).
