This database contains 25 long-term electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings from human subjects with atrial fibrillation, primarily paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Of these, 23 recordings include two ECG signals stored in .dat files; recordings 00735 and 03665 are only represented by rhythm annotation files (.atr) and unvalidated beat annotation files (.qrs). Each recording has a duration of 10 hours and contains two ECG signals, each sampled at 250 samples per second, with 12-bit resolution over a range of ±10 millivolts. Original analog recordings were acquired using Holter monitors at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston (now Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center), with a typical recording bandwidth of approximately 0.1 Hz to 40 Hz.

Rhythm annotation files (with the suffix .atr) were prepared manually; they contain rhythm annotations of the following types: AFIB (atrial fibrillation), AFL (atrial flutter), J (atrioventricular junctional rhythm), and N (indicating all other rhythms). (Original rhythm annotation files, still available in the old directory, used AF, AFL, J, and N to label these rhythms; the .atr annotations in this directory have been modified to be consistent with those used in the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database.)

Beat annotation files (with the suffix .qrs) were prepared using an automatic detector and have not been manually corrected. For some recordings, manually corrected beat annotation files (suffix .qrsc) are also available. (.qrs annotations may be useful for research on automatic AF detection methods, which must be robust to typical QRS detection errors. For basic research on AF itself, .qrsc annotations may be preferred, as QRS detection errors can confound such studies.)

Please note that no distinction is made between beat types in .qrs and .qrsc files; all beats are labeled as normal.
