Warrant files are kept for prisoners whose sentence is for twelve months or more. The contents of the files vary according to the seriousness of the crime committed. For example, the warrants for charges of vagrancy contain a covering Description Sheet consisting of: name; address; birthplace; physical description of prisoner; and previous convictions. The files relating to prisoners charged with a major crime contain more correspondence, psychiatric reports, applications for parole, and correspondence with the Superintendent of the gaol concerning any requests. A sample of 10% per annum has been retained. The files at Kirkconnell Afforestation Camp were arranged within a particular time period and then alphabetically. A sample was taken of files of prisoners discharged during the period 1959-74, whose surname began with B, H, M, S, Z.(12/2280-97). 18 boxes.
