Oral infusion of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside crude extract promotes growth performance and rumen development in pre-weaning lambs

Rumen development in pre-weaning ruminants has great plasticity, and appropriate nutritional manipulation strategies during this stage can facilitate rumen development and overall growth. The effects of flaxseed lignans on rumen epithelial development and rumen bacterial community in pre-weaning lambs were investigated based on the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of flaxseed lignans as a polyphenol compound. We found that oral administration of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) promoted growth performance and rumen development in pre-weaning lambs, which provided a basis for the rational application of flaxseed lignan extract in young ruminants.
