THE INFLUENCE OF READING HABITS ON VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

Reading habits play a crucial role in the development of vocabulary among English language learners (ELLs). Regular reading exposes learners to new words in meaningful contexts, enhances comprehension skills, and strengthens long-term memory retention. This article examines the relationship between reading frequency, reading strategies, and vocabulary growth. It also discusses theoretical perspectives supporting the connection between reading and lexical acquisition, and provides pedagogical implications for English language teaching. The findings suggest that consistent reading practice significantly contributes to both receptive and productive vocabulary development.
