This series consists of hand written and typed minutes and agenda papers for meetings of the Computer Applications Committee. The series also contains articles, reports proposals and a few newspaper articles. Some reports have diagrams and photographs. The records are in manilla folders in a chronological arrangement.Agendas state the computer sections - Data Services and Systems Development and the merging of the two sections into Management Information Services as well as job advertisements, responsibilities of each section and a list of committee members.Meetings considered submissions for computer technology, progress reports on systems development and implementation and reports of management information services activity. Reports in the series mention achievements, ongoing projects, planned projects and problems encountered.Agendas and reports cover the following areas: Records System Management, Financial Control System, Bank Cheque Reconciliation System, Stock Control System, Compass System, Passenger Statistical System, Metre Electric Train Computerized Information System, Computer Aided Design, Penalty Notice System, review of the Payroll System, timetabling and rostering, traffic monitoring, property register, rail reservations, workshops, training and development, freight wagon availability, Engineering Branch review, computer room security, operations, Eastern suburbs ticket issuing machines trading and catering services, and a fault reporting system which provides monitoring and analysis of data communication faults.Proposals include: the establishment of the Technological Policy and Implementation Team to promote the introduction of modern engineering and operational methodologies, hardware and training. Other areas covered in proposals are: cadetship recruitment, computerisation of locomotive maintenance information and electric train running, Customer Information Network System, Coal Train Location and Identification System, Mapper Run Writing and a computer for rent and advertising accounting.Custody History From 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an 'in house archives' consisting of the archival records of Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the 'State Rail Archives' the parts of the collection that were required as State Archives were transferred to the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R46. It may have been reviewed in the State Rail Archives as series R46 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
