This metadata entry refers to measurements of oceanic organosulfur compounds and halocarbons made by Sue Turner and oceanic ammonium made by David Hydes during the Challenger 59 research cruise in the North Sea as part of the North Sea Project. The cruise began on 23rd August 1989 and ended on 3rd September 1989 with a spatial coverage of +51N to +56N latitude and +2W to +8E longitude. The data consists of: -105 measurements of the concentration of dissolved dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) per unit volume of the water column by filtration and gas chromatography; -105 measurements of the concentration of particulate dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) per unit volume of the water column by filtration and gas chromatography; -5 measurements of the concentration of dissolved plus particulate dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP)per unit volume of the water column by gas chromatography; and -112 measurements of the concentration of dimethylsulphide (DMS) per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography. -102 measurements of the concentration of dibromochloromethane per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -102 measurements of the concentration of dibromomethane per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -92 measurements of the concentration of dichlorobromomethane per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -103 measurements of the concentration of iodomethane (methyl iodide) per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -103 measurements of the concentration of tetrachloroethene per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -103 measurements of the concentration of tetrachloromethane (carbon tetrachloride) per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -103 measurements of the concentration of tribromomethane per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; -103 measurements of the concentration of trichloroethane per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography; and -103 measurements of the concentration of trichloromethane (chloroform) per unit volume of the water column by filtration, purging, cryogenic trapping and gas chromatography. -357 measurements of the concentration of ammonium (NH4) per unit volume of the water column (dissolved plus reactive particulate phase) by colorimetric autoanalysis.
