Recent Private Development in Older Areas of Birmingham, 1972

<P>Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.</P><br>A survey of households in a sample of recently built owner-occupied housing within older areas of the City of Birmingham; to provide information on the origins of the owner-occupiers, their reasons for moving and the criteria on which they selected their accommodation.<br><B>Main Topics</B>:<BR><br>Attitudinal/Behavioural Questions<br> Present residence: type, number of rooms/bedrooms, persons per room, central heating, number of cars, presence of garage/garden, major additions/alterations, length of residence, previous occupants, occupation (whole/part of the house), household type (family/single person). Rehousing procedure, reason for moving/choice of new house, reason for decision to rent or buy. Details of previous residence.<br> Respondents who owned or were buying their houses were asked for full details of method and means of purchase (deposit, mortgage, leasehold/freehold, etc). Area amenities and accessibility to shops, schools and employment was assessed-respondent's priorities for these services (and possession of garden and/or garage) was investigated. Satisfaction with house/area, with reasons, future house and job plans.<br> Background Variables<br> Age, sex, number of children, employment status, nationality, income, social class. Number of persons/earners in household, tenure of parent's accommodation.
