Genomic characterization of native Swedish, Norwegian and Faroese horses

This project aimed to characterize genomic diversity within and between Nordic native horse breeds, with a particular focus on the Norwegian and Swedish breeds. Whole genome sequencing was performed on 190 horses from eight breeds using Illumina NovaSeq technology. Variant datasets, including SNPs and structural variations, were extracted for analyses of e.g. inbreeding, population structure, private alleles, and signatures of selection. These data provide useful information for the conservation and breeding of Nordic native horse breeds, as well as for broader studies of genomic variation among breeds selected for different purposes. This dataset forms the basis for multiple investigations into Nordic horse genomics.
