Human asthmatic bronchial brushing cells stimulated with apolipoprotein E demonstrate increased expression of mRNA transcripts encoding multiple pro-inflammatory genes Asthmatic research volunteers (n=8) provided informed consent to participate in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) research protocol 99-H-0076. Research participants underwent flexible bronchoscopy and cytologic brushings were performed. Bronchial brushing cells from each participant were divided into two batches and treated with apolipoprotein E (500 nM) or media as control.
