Novel word learning task with (a) 4 <i>object labelling</i> trials showing a single novel object (plus 3 filler trials with a familiar object) and asked "What’s this?" or "What is this called?"; (b) 6 <i>word recognition</i> trials showing 2 novel objects (labelled during teaching) plus a third novel object (presented during teaching but never labelled) and asked to "Point to the [object label]!" or "Show me the [object label]!" (plus 4 filler trials each with 3 familiar objects). For word recognition, indications (points/gestures) toward the labelled (target) object were counted. Gaze to the target was measured but not reported. Participants then completed 4 generalization trials with functionally similar but perceptually different objects.
