original data of public sector employees

We recruited 342 Chinese public sector employees and collected data using the paid sampling service of Questionnaire Star (similar to MTurk). A subject fee of approximately $3 was paid to participants who completed the questionnaire seriously through the platform. The subjects include traffic police, civilian police, city police, street clerks, and other frontline public servants from 30 provincial-level administrative regions. They work in diverse government departments (e.g., transportation departments, civil affairs bureaus, urban management bureaus, and street offices) who deal directly with citizens. The criteria for valid responses include the following: (1) seriousness in answering, no logical inconsistencies in back-and-forth responses; (2) passing the randomly inserted attention test questions by the system; and (3) answering IP, mobile phone number, and account uniqueness. A total of 330 valid questionnaires were collected, with a valid response rate of 96.49%. Among them, 146 are male, accounting for 44.20%, and 184 are female, accounting for 55.80%. In addition, 26 have a college education or below, thus accounting for 7.90%, 252 have a bachelor’s degree, thus accounting for 76.40%, 51 have a master’s degree, thus accounting for 15.50%, and one has a PhD degree, thus accounting for 0.30%. Moreover, 292 are married, accounting for 88.50%, 35 are unmarried, accounting for 10.60%, and three have other statuses, accounting for 0.90%. Meanwhile, 287 employees or 87.00% are established, whereas 43 employees or 13.00% are not. Then, 258 employees or 78.20% are members of the Party, 19 employees or 5.80% are members of the League, two employees or 0.60% are members of democratic parties, 50 employees or 15.20% are members of the public, and one employee or 0.30% is categorized as other. The main means of contact with the public are face to face (225 employees or 68.20%), through telephone (44 employees or 13.30%), through the Internet (55 employees or 16.70%), and other means (6 employees or 1.80%). The average age of the respondents is 34.25 years (SD = 6.240), and the average number of years working in the current organization is 8.33 years (SD = 5.190).
