Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in Gulls from Turkey – Evidence of Environmental Spread. ESBL_GULLS_TURKEY

Background: One of the major challenges regarding multidrug-resistant bacteria in modern medicine is the carbapenemase-producing members of the Enterobacteriaceae family. They destroy the clinically most important group of last line treatments, and they are associated with high mortality rates. To explore if these bacteria have disseminated into in the environment, we investigated the fecal carriage of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae among gulls occupying different foraging niches in Istanbul, Turkey.
