The outer boundary is driven by fits to equatorial pitch angle distributions derived from the RBSPICE ISRHELT, MagEIS pix2 and REPT instruments, and is subject to some uncertainty. The phase space density of protons with dipole mirror points at 585km altitude or below is assumed to be zero. The phase space density at L < 1.15 is assumed to be zero.
