Whole Genome Sequencing of Escherichia coli isolated from poultry and environmental samples

Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) is a primary causative agent of colibacillosis, a bacterial disease in poultry that results in high mortality and substantial economic losses. In Bangladesh, where the poultry industry plays a vital role in food security and livelihoods, APEC remains a significant threat. The widespread use of antibiotics has intensified antimicrobial resistance, reducing treatment effectiveness and posing public health risks. This study investigated the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns and virulence gene profiles of E. coli isolates obtained from broiler chickens (APEC) and their surrounding environments (EEC) in Bangladesh, utilising Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
