Improving efficiency in face recognition

Face recognition has dominated research efforts in the field of biometrics for several decades. There is a large public perception of a need for this technology and a belief in its capability, which drives most of the research efforts in the area to strive to achieve near-perfect recognition results. This thesis carves its niche, not by trying to achieve near-perfect recognition results, but by trying to improve the efficiency of face recognition systems to better enable the research community to one day achieve near-perfect face recognition and/or increase the method’s successful use in society.
