Social Science Japan Data Archive
The Social Science Japan Data Archive (SSJDA) aims to support empirical research in the social sciences in Japan by collecting, maintaining, and preserving micro data obtained from labor and social surveys, and by providing the academic community with access to these data for secondary analyses. By the 1990s, data archives, well established in the United States and most European countries, had become an integral part of social science research and education.Due to the lack of data archives in Japan, however, large numbers of empirical data collected over the years had gradually disappeared after their primary analyses. Metadata for all content is openly available, though there are restrictions on access to the underlying data linked to that metadata. A unit within the Center for Social Research and Data Archives, Institute of Social Science, The University of Tokyo, SSJDA aims to promote empirical research in the social sciences, and has been disseminating archival data since April, 1998.
