Comparative microbiomes of male and female Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes. Anopheles gambiae

In this study, the whole body microbiota of male and female Anopheles gambiae s.l were compared to identify similarity or otherwise of the bacterial composition between the two sexes. Mosquitoes samples were newly emerged non-sugar fed and 4-5 day old sugar fed of both sexes, and blood fed females. We observed the stable high abundance of Elizabethkingia and Asaia, in both sexes throughout their feeding history, emphasizng their sustainability in their potential use in bacteria-mediated mosquito-borne disease control strategies.
