Production volume of sugarcane in India FY 2022, by state

The northern state of Uttar Pradesh was the leading producer of sugarcane in India with a production volume of over 179 million metric tons in fiscal year 2022. A majority of Indian cuisines contain sugar. Especially during the festive season, the celebration in the country is incomplete without sweets or mithai as known in the Hindi language. Most Indian sweets along with sugar contain nuts, flour, and dairy components such as milk, butter, and cream. As a result of increased consumption and demand, the market value of sweets is likely to reach 834 billion Indian rupees in 2025.
