资源简介:
In June 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission in Providence and the Rhode Island Army National Guard (RIARNG) Headquarters in East Greenwich to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on federally owned or federally supported National Guard facilities in the state. Information from this research includes the history of cultural investigations on RIARNG facilities and lists of historic buildings recorded within facility boundaries. Additionally, historic contexts and the potential utility of predictive models are discussed, and a list is provided of Native American tribes that may be culturally affiliated with archaeological collections recovered from RIARNG facilities. To date, no systematic archaeological surveys have been conducted on any of the RIARNG facilities; however, one prehistoric site (RI 103) was recorded on Camp Varnum as part of an unsystematic survey. No structures located on RIARNG facilities are eligible or listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
