RNA-sequencing of the wild wheat related species Aegilops umbellulata

Aegilops umbellulata Zhuk. (2n = 14), a diploid wild wheat relative, has been used for genetic resources for wheat breeding. Intraspecific variations of Ae. umbellulata, however, have not been well studied and its genomic information is still limited. To develop novel genetic markers distributed over all of the Ae. umbellulata chromosomes and evaluate genetic diversity in Ae. umbellulata, we performed RNA sequencing of 12 representative accessions of Ae. umbellulata, and reconstructed transcripts with de novo assembly of short reads for each accession.
