Investigating Fundamental Concepts of Wind Energy: Mitigating Climate Change for the Future

This project targets college and K-12 students by addressing the importance of wind energy to mitigate climate change. The purpose of the project is to increase awareness of understanding sustainable ways to harness wind. An interactive wind energy educational module was developed for a 4-H STEM K-12 outreach program. Data from this research encourages others to understand fundamental STEM concepts through hurricane analysis, and relaying information to a younger audience for secondary knowledge dissemination. This project encourages students to join STEM by developing their understanding of wind concepts through an interactive wind turbine game and breakdown of specific terms. While the impacts of climate change are commonly addressed through limiting the use of greenhouse gases, this project is unique in explaining how fundamental concepts of wind energy may mitigate climate change.
