16S rRNA amplicon sequencing dataset of gut microbiome associated with colorectal cancer in a Portuguese cohort

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent malignancy worldwide, including in Portugal, which reports the 6th highest CRC incidence rate in Europe. CRC onset and progression have been increasingly linked to gut microbiota dysbiosis; however, the stool microbiota of Portuguese CRC patients has not yet been characterised. As far as we are aware, this dataset comprises the first characterisation and identification of stool-based markers of CRC from a Portuguese cross-sectional cohort (n = 50) of healthy individuals (HC, n = 17), adenoma patients (AP, n = 8), and colorectal cancer patients (CRC, n = 25) across stages (0/I, II, and III/IV), through 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing (Illumina MiSeq).
