NERVOUS TISSUE AND NEURONS: STRUCTURE, FUNCTIONS, AND MECHANISMS OF NEURAL COMMUNICATION

Nervous tissue is the primary tissue of the nervous system and is responsible for the reception, transmission, processing, and integration of information throughout the human body. This study aimed to examine the structural organization, cellular composition, and physiological functions of nervous tissue, with particular emphasis on neurons and neuroglial cells. A descriptive literature review was conducted using scientific textbooks and peer-reviewed sources in histology, anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience. The findings revealed that neurons are highly specialized cells capable of generating and transmitting nerve impulses, while neuroglial cells provide structural support, metabolic regulation, immune protection, and myelination. The study also demonstrated the importance of synaptic transmission, neurotransmitters, and neural plasticity in maintaining normal nervous system function. Furthermore, the role of nervous tissue in sensory perception, motor control, homeostasis, learning, memory, and behavior was highlighted. Understanding the structure and function of nervous tissue is essential for explaining normal physiological processes and for developing effective strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.
