Microbial functional groups including iron-reducing bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria, arsenic-reducing bacteria and methanogen have been documented to contribute to arsenic mobilization and transformation in groundwater. In this study, Citrobacter sp. G-C1 and Paraclostridium sp. G-11 were isolated from high As groundwater in Hetao plain, Inner Mongolia, China and found its capability of arsenic reduction, arsenic methylation, arsenic demethylation as well as dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium and nitrogen fixation by batch culture experiments.
