This is the dataset for the paper "Global Effects of Chorus and Hiss Waves on Energetic Electrons at Jupiter", submitted to Geophysical Research Letters by Li, W., Q. Ma, W. S. Kurth, G. B. Hospodarsky, and S. J. Bolton. The dataset includes the statistical distribution of whistler-mode chorus and hiss waves, the electron diffusion coefficients, and the Fokker Planck simulation of electron phase space density distributions at M = 6, 9, and 12.Jupiter is surrounded by intense radiation made of energetic electrons, yet how these electrons are accelerated and lost is still not fully understood. Using observations from NASA’s Juno spacecraft, we show that two types of plasma waves, called chorus and hiss, often occur together around Jupiter, unlike at Earth where they are usually separated. By combining these observations with physics-based simulations, we find that chorus waves are especially important for accelerating high-energy electrons, while hiss waves mainly cause electrons to be lost. At Jupiter, chorus waves are likely less effective at accelerating electrons than at Earth because both acceleration and loss occur simultaneously in the same regions, driven by chorus and hiss waves together. These findings advance our understanding of energetic electron dynamics at magnetized planets, both within the solar system and in other planetary systems.
