Phenotypic and genomic characteristics of Acinetobacter species recovered from hospitalized patients, ready-to-slaughter cattle, and abattoir effluents in Lagos, Nigeria

In Lagos, Nigeria, we isolated 19 Acinetobacter spp. strains (14 A. nosocomialis, 5 A. junii). All were resistant to cefotaxime and fosfomycin and exhibited intermediate susceptibility to ciprofloxacin. Every A. nosocomialis isolate carried 21 intrinsic antimicrobial-resistance genes, including four blaADC variants and 17 efflux-related genes, which were absent in A. junii. A. nosocomialis harbored 68 virulence genes across seven mechanisms.
