Gene expression studies of two mammalian cell lines that display primary cilia. Primary cilia are microtubule-based organelles that are hubs for receiving and intergrating signalling cascades during embryonic development and in maintaining tissue homeostasis. Defects in the structure of function of cilia can cause a group of comparitively common human inherited conditions known as ciliopathies. The cell-lines that have been profiled are standard model systems in the ciliary biology field, and gene expression profiles are important to understand the processes of forming, maintaining and resorbing cilia.
