Exploration of Archaea in the extreme AMD systems

Omics studies of extreme environments on earth have provided invaluable insights into molecular mechanisms of adaptation to extreme conditions, roles in biogeochemical cycles and evolution of archaea. However, few archaeal lineages have been investigated in the extreme AMD systems, thus greatly limiting our understanding of ecological roles and evolutionary history of archaea in the AMD environments. Here, we use culture-independent metagenomics to explore new archaeal lineages in the extreme AMD systems and expand our knowledge of archaea in the AMD environments.
