Differential responses of blue mussels from distinct environments in Atlantic Canada to thermal stress

The objective of this study was to investigate and compare the thermal biology of two sources of mussels from Atlantic Canada, Sober Island Pond, Nova Scotia and St. Peters Bay, Prince Edward Island. Mussels were held under three temperatures (20, 25, 30 degrees Celsius), and RNA-Sequencing was used to help characterize their thermal biology. These results highlight the potential for sources of mussels from different thermal environments to have diverse responses to future climatic scenarios, which could have ecological and economic implications with important applications to the aquaculture industry in Atlantic Canada.
