In this prospective cohort study, we performed systematic sampling of surfaces within rooms occupied by patients with a history of multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO) infection or colonization. Additionally, we performed prospective anatomic sampling of the patient occupying these rooms. These specimens underwent bacterial culture for MDRO detection and 16S sequencing for microbiome analysis
