Dataset used for "Arctic temperature and precipitation extremes in present-day and future storyline-based variable resolution Community Earth System Model simulations"
收藏资源简介:
General Info This dataset contains the daily near-surface temperature and precipitation model output and calculated temperature and precipitation extreme metrics for coupled atmosphere-land variable-resolution CESM2 simulations that follow three different experiments: 1) a 30-year present-day A experiment (1985-2014), 2) 10-year present-day B experiments (2005-2014), and 3) future experiments (2090-2099). The modelling experiments were performed with two different grids, a globally uniform 1-degree grid (NE30) and a variable resolution grid with regional grid refinements to 28 km over the Arctic and Antarctica (POLARRES). The present-day B and future experiments follow two different storylines of Arctic climate change representing a combination of 1) strong Arctic tropospheric warming and weak sea surface warming in the Barents-Kara Seas (ST1), or 2) weak Arctic tropospheric warming and strong sea surface warming in the Barents-Kara Seas (ST2). Further, this dataset also includes the daily output and calculated extreme metrics for ERA5, JRA-3Q, and RACMO, used for evaluation of the CESM simulations. The daily output and extreme metrics have been used for analysis and discussion in the paper "Arctic temperature and precipitation extremes in present-day and future storyline-based variable resolution Community Earth System Model simulations" that has been accepted for publication in Weather and Climate Dynamics, https://egusphere.copernicus.org/preprints/2025/egusphere-2025-1070/ Contact René Wijngaard (r.r.wijngaard.uu@gmail.com / r.r.wijngaard@uu.nl) Raw Data Raw monthly and daily unstructured NE30 and POLARRES model output are available on request. Dataset Contents Reference_Data.tar.gz This file contains daily output and extreme metrics that have been derived from ERA5, JRA-3Q, and RACMO for the period 1985-2014, and have been used for evaluation of the CESM simulations. Present_dayA_NE30.tar.gzPresent_dayA_POLARRES.tar.gz These files contain daily output and extreme metrics derived from VR-CESM simulations with the NE30 and POLARRES grids that follow the 30-year present-day A experiment (1985-2014). Present_dayB_NE30.tar.gzPresent_dayB_POLARRES.tar.gz Future_NE30.tar.gzFuture_POLARRES.tar.gz These files contain daily output and extreme metrics derived from VR-CESM simulations with the NE30 and POLARRES grids that follow the 10-year present-day B experiments (2005-2014) and future experiments (2090-2099) for two different storylines: ST1_NorESM2-MM and ST2_CNRM-ESM2-1. All data listed here have been regridded to a 1-degree finite volume (0.9 x 1.25 degrees latitude/longitude) grid (prior to calculating the extreme metrics) and are displayed for the domain poleward of 40 degrees N. The following variables and metrics are included: PRECT_NH.nc (daily precipitation), TREFHT_NH.nc (daily mean 2m temperature), TREFHTMX_NH.nc (daily max 2m temperature), TREFHTMN_NH.nc (daily min 2m temperature), TREFHTMX.NH.TXx.nc (annual maximum temperature), TREFHTMX.NH.WSDI.nc (warm spell duration index), TREFHTMN.NH.TNn.nc (annual minimum temperature, TREFHTMN.NH.CSDI.nc (cold spell duration index), PRECT.NH.P99.nc (99th percentile of daily precipitation), PRECT.NH.RX5day.nc (highest 5-day precipitation sum), PRECT.NH.R10mm.nc (number of heavy precipitation days), and PRECT.NH.CDD.nc (greatest number of consecutive dry days). Moisture_Wind.tar.gz These files contain monthly output on a 1-degree finite volume (0.9 x 1.25 degrees latitude/longitude) grid derived from VR-CESM simulations with the NE30 and POLARRES grids that follow the 10-year present-day B experiments (2005-2014) and future experiments (2090-2099) for the storylines: ST1_NorESM2-MM and ST2_CNRM-ESM2-1. The output has been used for the analysis of the vertically-integrated moisture flux convergence, moisture flux, and zonal wind as displayed in Figure 13 of the paper. The following variables are included: PS (surface pressure), U (zonal wind), V (meridional wind), Z3 (geopotential height), and Q (specific humidity). The U, V, Z3, and Q variables have been interpolated on a CMIP6 19-pressure levels scheme.
