Indonesian Susenas 1997, Household Characteristics (Core)

The Indonesian Social and Economic Survey (Susenas 1997) is a nationwide survey conducted to collect information on social and economics indices. It serves as a main source of monitoring the social and economic progress in the society. Susenas was conducted on an annual basis since 1963. In 1992, in addition to a basic social and economic questionnaire (core), another questionnaire was introduced which gathers more detailed information on special interest topics (module). The core covers basic information on household and individual characteristics including health, death, education/literacy, employment, fertility and family planning, housing, and household expenditure. The core questionnaire is asked annually with only slight modifications in subsequent years. Susenas 1997 core covers 207,351 households and is designed to be representative up to district/municipality levels. The module is intended to gather more detailed information on specific topics, especially on data that changed less frequently than yearly. In general, there are three set of modules of Susenas and one set of modules is added in a three-year cycle. In 1997, the modules' topics were household welfare and social culture, crime, and tourism. In the archived dataset, only the household welfare and social culture module are available, and cover 65,650 households. Both core and module questionnaires contain data on household and individual characteristics. In the archive deposit, Susenas 1997 core was divided into two datasets containing household and individual chadarecterisics, respectively (study IDs 01173 and 01174 respectively). The Susenas 1997 module on household welfare and social culture was split into two main data files, which contain information on household characteristics (study ID 01175), and individual characteristics (study ID 01176). All datasets from Susenas 1997 can be merged using the following key variables: province, district, sub-district, village, sample code, and household code. The present data file - Household Characteristics (Core) - contains household data gathered from core questionnaires. It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics, housing and settlement facilities, household expenditure, household participatin in the Less Developed Area (IDT) Development Program, and ownership of livestock.
