This dataset, Global Ocean Reference Genomes: Dark (GORG-Dark), contains 9,698 single amplified genomes (SAGs) obtained from individual bacterial or archaeal cells isolated from ocean plankton at aphotic depths. It accompanies the manuscript <i>Single-cell-resolved genome composition of prokaryoplankton inhabiting the ocean’s interior,</i> and is presented as a reference database for microbial ecologists, oceanographers, and bioprospectors.
