Woman (88 years old, born 1912, from Beit Sahour) interviewed by Shireen Qumsieh on 27 November 1998. She discusses the following: starvation during World War I; al-Husseini told people not to sell their property to Jewish settlers but Jews would beat people who refused to sell their land; how bad the war between Britain and the Ottoman Empire was; ‘seferberlik’ (Ottoman military conscription); people used to search horse dung for bits of barley to eat; under the British Mandate people were forced to sell their houses to foreigners without knowing that it was for Jewish settlers.
